25 phenomena in production companies (and more)
In the last 5-6 years, we observed a number of phenomena in most manufacturing company that require a number of systemic changes on production systems and workflow to continuously synchronize to the market (customers, suppliers and competitors).
The major changes of external and, implicitly, internal factors that impose innovative strategies are:
A) modification of external factors (market):
1) continuous reduction of the lot size;
2) increasing the variety of products;
3) increasing the complexity of the product design;
4) decrease in volume forecasting capacity (customers/ suppliers);
5) tendencies to prolong the product life cycles (compared to the end of 2008) – tendencies to capitalize on the experience);
6) the imperative need for continuous cost reduction;
7) the need for a strong reduction of lead time;
8) maintaining an acceptable quality level (possibly increasing it);
B) modification of internal factors:
1) the increased migration of the labor force (not necessarily on financial criteria);
2) erosion or lack of culture of continuous improvement (especially on the basis of continuous migration of personnel and the impossibility of achieving stability through standardization);
3) the need to increase the discipline of the employees;
4) increasing the level of involvement of the employees and especially of the managers (increasingly professional managers);
5) the need for real leadership and management branding;
6) the real increase of the interest of the employees for the accumulation of professional information;
7) the continuous increase of stress;
8) increasing the interest of the employees for the visibility of the current workplace – individual career plan in the current company;
9) the need to increase the efficiency of the equipment;
10) shortening the life cycle of the technology (sometimes without signals in advance);
11) major variations of the time cycle (especially on equipment);
12) increasing rework;
13) increasing the synchronization on the flow (internal and external);
14) lower quality of raw materials and materials from suppliers – the need to increase the quality control at reception;
15) difficulties in standardization (achievement of standards, but especially maintaining and improving them);
16) major difficulties in production planning;
17) frequent design problems, with major implications in the production;
Normally, in many companies there are mixed and different percentages of the importance of these phenomena. So, do you think these phenomena are real?
Do you think they are present in many companies?
What do you think are the phenomena that need more attention now and especially in the future?
